Feisty - the Quilt

Feisty is my 2019 "Not a Mystery" quilt.

(for more on that, click HERE)

After countless evolutionary steps,

(you can read all of Feisty's previous entries on the blog
by clicking on the label at the end of this post)

I am beyond happy with the playful interaction
between the colors of the top and back.

Younger son and I ventured out for a photoshoot.

This was part of the scene - so peaceful.

The light was a bit harsh due to the hazy cloud cover.

In the shade under a tree.

A closer look at the back
under that same tree.

The finished quilt measures 51" x 66"

Quilted with allover liberated fans
using Glide thread in Nickel.

Trick or Treat - October's Kitchen Table Quilt

Trick or Treat will be on our kitchen table this month.

It measures 63" x 63"

(in case you missed v1 of this quilt's top,
click HERE and read how it failed yet became v2)

This is the scrappy back anchored by this seasonal panel.

Quilted with liberated all-over fans
using Glide thread in Burnt Orange.

Back flipped to front.

Front flipped to back.

I am SO glad I bought this deep-toned Jason Yenter print
even though I had no particular purpose in mind because
it turned out to be perfect as T or T's sashing and border.

Fruit Smoothie - July's Kitchen Table Quilt

Fruit Smoothie - kitchen table quilt number seven

A "crumpled" photo of the quilt's scrappy backing.

One corner of the front.

One corner of the back.

Back flipped to front.

Front flipped to back.

Finished quilt measures 64" x 64"

This "stitch out" shows how Fruit Smoothie was quilted -
one band of color at a time using seven different top threads
(Pink in the center, then Cornflower, Autumn,
Coral, Mulberry, Viridian, and Raven)
and two different bobbin threads.
(Coral with Lead Grey for the two outer bands)

August's kitchen table quilt top
has been waiting for a long (!) time.

Last week I decided to change the backing
for Shift Happens and it won't be long
until it is ready for pin basting and quilting.

Finally, congratulations to Linda M. from MO
who was the winner of the big box of scraps.

She wrote "OMG, I never win anything!
Thank you so much.  I always admire your vast stash
and I can only imagine all the goodies and
little gems hidden in your scrap boxes!
I have only been quilting since 2012,
so I don't have a large stash buildup yet."

Here's hoping the scrap infusion
brings her a big burst of happiness!

Hello July - the Quilt

Hello July

53" x 63"

Started just over a year ago with the purchase
of a Mackinac Island by Moda layer cake
that I enhanced with more fabrics from the stash.

I die cut just over 300 4" finished tumblers.

What a delicious mix.

I used the very last pieces of Keiko Goke's
Sashiko print for the binding.

Quilted using Glide thread in Graphite
and a lot of wavy vertical liberated lines.

I have two more that I want to quilt
yet this month -- Gerful and Fruit Smoothie.

Fingers crossed!

Fourth of July - the Quilt

Fourth of July started back in June of 2019 when
I was inspired by Linda's sharing of the "Bertha" quilt.

I raided the stash and cut a lot of 9" squares
to make a Bertha quilt of my own.

(you can see Linda's quilt top here
and her finished quilt here)

In May 2020 I decided to repurpose my still-unused squares
into hourglass blocks for the then-current AHIQ challenge.

My quilt top was completed in June 2020.

Now, a year later, Fourth of July is finished.

I'm really pleased with the scrappy pieced back.

Quilted with rows of my liberated fans
using Glide thread in Graphite.

48" x 60"

Next up for FMQ will be Hello July . . .

Lagoon - Kitchen Table Quilt for June

Lagoon is our kitchen table quilt for June.

(for those who have wondered, I take these
glamour shot photos outdoors but we actually
use the quilts indoors on our kitchen table)

This is the backing for Lagoon.

Quilted with all over liberated fans with spiral centers
 using Glide thread in Aquamarine.

(you can read the quilt's back story HERE)

Back flipped to front.

Front flipped to back.

Six kitchen table quilts completed . . .

six more to go.

Dumpster Diving 11 - Mischief Maker - the Quilt

And then it was finished . . .

Dumpster Diving 11 - Mischief Maker

48" x 60"

This was my 2020 Rainbow Scrap Challenge project.

I made two blocks each month January-October
loosely following Angela's color prompts.

Each of the blocks was quilted using
one of twenty different colors of Glide thread.

(you can read all of the previous posts
for this quilt using the label for Dumpster Diving 11
below the quotation at the bottom of this post)

I saved the excess binding from Spotty Town -
and there was just enough to use on Mischief Maker.

(just enough = less than 8" leftover)

This is the second of the quilt's corners.

This is the third corner.

And this is the fourth corner.

The colorful birds were absolutely the right choice.

(one consistent bobbin thread was used)

I know that I've declared Mischief Maker
to be the end of my Dumpster Diving series . . .
but that does not mean I'll stop playing with
the boxes of leftover 1.5" scrappy strips.

There will be enough, even after the six Etcetera quilts,
to make lots of different kinds of utility mats.

Because, in the end, these little bits and pieces
are just so much fun to work with and,
when sewn together, have so much impact.

Heliophilia - the Quilt

Heliophilia (love of sunlight) is finished.

(for such a sunny quilt, it was a very gray day to take outdoor photos)

The first time I posted about this quilt top is HERE.

The scrappy pieced backing was sewn together in November 2017.
and was originally intended for Partly Sunny.

The top for Partly Sunny had a long and winding story -
you can read parts of it HERE
.

I am so glad that Lynne didn't want to use the backing
because I absolutely love it!

Liberated unmarked free motion quilting
with my beloved all over fans and flowers
(with a few paisleys and pebbles added for good measure)
using Glide thread in Buttercup.

48" x 60"

In other outside-the-studio news -

DH and I received our first doses of COVID vaccine yesterday.

Younger son gets his second dose today.

The on-site drive-through process was a breeze
compared to the frustrating and erratic online appointment systems.

Funny (not "ha ha" funny) story -

The online system used for the second doses flaked out multiple times
while trying to get him registered for an appointment -
and then we ended up with two appointments
on two different days in two different locations.
I spent enough time on hold cancelling the extra one
that I was able to attach the binding to Heliophilia
and have all but the last few inches flipped to the back
and machine-sewn down - thank goodness for speaker phones!)

Grassy Creek Geese - the Flimsy

The top for Grassy Creek Geese is now sewn together.

(you can read about this project's inspiration
using the labels at the end of this post)

I will straighten the side edges after this one is quilted.

It's 54" x 68" (give or take) at this point.

And joy of joys, I think I've found the right quilt
for this gray scrappy binding that's been in the stash
for eons (after being rejected multiple times before).

I took this photo while sewing the top together.
(obviously before it was pressed)

I think this quilt will become a regular member
of our autumn quilt rotation - starting NEXT fall.
