Let's start with the Scrap Vortex project.
I've paired and sewn and pressed all of
the smallish pieces from the crumb boxes
at least three times through.
On the fourth pass,
I paired and stitched half of them
before starting to piece slabs
that will be trimmed to size later on.

The funny part is - I think there are
enough chunks already sewn
in that one-half group
to piece the 48" x 60" top
without touching the second half!
And I never even broke into boxes two and three.
Can you guess there may be another
Scrap Vortex project to follow this one?
Moving on to the project known as
"Quiltfolk Source Quilt Meets Cultural Fusion Quilts"
or "Triangulation" for short.
This photo shows a further-edited assortment
of potential fabric pairs along with
the vintage backing fabrics in the foreground.
But I wasn't happy with the too-monochromatic vibe.
So I went back to the stash
to spice things up a little more
by adding a few blues, yellows, and greens.
I also added in the two purples from St. Louis
and rearranged some of the fabric pairings.
And now I'm quite pleased with the blend of colors.
Of course, once I start cutting strips and squares,
things could change but for now I'll start with these.
And these fabrics have been pulled and edited
for a project currently known as Landslide
(the pattern's name).
I saw this as a work in progress on Linda's blog
and knew it was a process project I would enjoy.
Both pieces of backing yardage have been
in the stash for far too long and
this will allow both to be used to full advantage.
There is no timetable for this
but I want to make it sooner instead of later.
And some of you may remember these fabrics
from this January post . . .
I'll be teaching the freeform Rail Fence
at Fabric for the Flock in August
so I pulled these fabrics to make myself
a fifth version of the Rail Fence quilt.
I originally paired the darks with bright greens,
but there just wasn't enough contrast to suit me.
So . . .
I decided to go in a very different
and much more colorful direction by
introducing several Bella solids from my stash.
I want to have the top pieced
before class begins on August 6.
Clearly the squirrels and a series of unexpected projects
have completely taken over in the studio.
So I am abandoning my
18 in 2018 tracking efforts
and will just go with the flow.
Quilting IS supposed to be fun, right?!!?
