Two Future Baby Quilts Finished

After making two versions ( Part 1 and Part 2) 

of last year's Davies Manor Mystery Quilt

plus a tablerunner,

I still had pieces and parts leftover.

So I made a crib quilt to become

a sometime-in-the-future gift.

The Grape Pansy Caper Part III 

was quilted by my friend Chris Ballard.

(she was testing out a new design 

and we would both rather practice

on a real quilt v. a muslin sandwich)

Much better than having those leftovers

languish in the scrap bins!

I had also pieced this top 

as another sometime-in-the-future gift.

Chris practiced another new-to-her design on this one.

The backing describes "The Perfect Treehouse"

with diagrams, text, and directions.

Again, I'm glad these leftovers were turned into

something wonderful and useful.

I have no idea when or to whom 

these two quilts will be gifted,

but they are finished and that makes me happy.

Grape Pansy Caper - Mystery Quilt No. 2

I did not want to make 

one very large mystery quilt

so I created two lap/couch quilts instead.

After finishing GPC-1, 

(see previous post)

I used the remaining segments

and, instead of making more blocks,

(boring)

I randomly pieced the strips

into three long columns.

And after following the rules 

while making GPC-1,

it felt SO good to break away and

create something completely unexpected

for this second quilt.

I cut 1.5" strips of Turquoise Grunge

and used them to frame the last of the pieced strips

for two vertical sashing units.

And I bought yardage 

of this incredible fabric for the back.

(Midnight C3898 by Chong-Ahwang

for Timeless Treasures)

Persian Glide thread was chosen for the quilting.

Horizontal liberated/organic wavy lines

were just right for my Grape Pansy Caper-Part Two.

I couldn't be any happier with the texture.

And the quilted back . . .  deep sigh!

I used more Turquoise Grunge to bind GPC-2.

48" wide x 60" long after quilting.

Grape Pansy Caper - Mystery Quilt No. 1

This is The Grape Pansy Caper - Part One

freshly quilted and trimmed but not yet bound.

The Mystery quilt block pattern

was given to participants last February.

from Billie Lauder's Mystery Quilt Series

Locked Up in Chains)

Color choices and layout options

were left up to individual participants.

I quilted GPC-1 with a lot of 

free motion liberated spirals

using Gilde thread in Turf green.

Here is the unbound quilt outdoors on the driveway.

I am elated with the texture.

I used Scrollscapes yardage in Emerald Green

(Dan Morris for Quilting Treasures)

for the quilt's backing.

The texture on the back is also amazing.

With a bit of creative cutting,

there was even enough of the leftover backing

to use for binding!

Grape Pansy Caper - The Table Runner

The last time I blogged about this runner,

it was hanging over our balcony

waiting to be quilted.

Now it is quilted, bound,

and in its new home at my sister's house.

I used two of Lori Kennedy's quilting motifs:

Messy spirals/Spiral roses in the purple squares

(Glide thread - Raven)

and

echoed leaves in the green squares.

(Glide thread - Turf)

Here is the finished 12" x 60" runner.

I used a soft gray thread 

to quilt the black and white areas

with a back and forth liberated grid.

My sister loves the runner

and I'm happy to have used 

the final five leftover blocks

from The Grape Pansy Caper

(my project name for this year's

Davies Manor Mystery Quilt)

to make something useful.

Tomorrow I'll share the first of two

Grape Pansy Caper quilts.
