Gerful - the Quilt

Gerful took less than a year!

(fabrics pulled late July 2020)

Not only that, but the quilt is finished

less than two weeks after the quilt top was completed.

That must be some kind of record for me.

This scrappy quilt makes me so happy . . . 

I had intended to use a dark binding 

but at the last minute I noticed this scrappy binding

in the to-be-quilted closet and I made a snap decision.

I am SO glad I listened to that thought.

Quilted with liberated all over fans

using Glide thread in Lead Grey.

48" wide x 60" long

Once tamed and squared, almost the entire back 

features my beloved sassy teapots from 2007.

GERFUL is absolutely a YES YES YES finish.

For those of you with eagle eyes (see photo one)

instead of mini white Christmas lights on our fence,

we now have dimmable waterproof LED lights

that will stay in place year round.

Like Gerful, the new lights make me very, very happy.

Gerful - the Flimsy

A look at my design wall last week - 

this is another of my HST quilts, namely

Gerful (noun) - "wild and wayward"

I've been leader-endering the 

individual HSTs for a long time now.

It felt good to turn them into blocks.

Twenty scrappy 12" (fin.) blocks 

laid out on the design wall. 

And then they turned into a flimsy (quilt top)!

48" x 60"

I'll use these fabrics to piece a scrappy back.

The sassy teapot fabric is the very last 

of long-saved yardage used as the back for my

2007 quilt AND SOMETIMES Y -- 

as in this piece is the 52" length that was 

once to cover my oversized ironing table top.

Moving Forward

While I listened to the many hours of pre-recorded video

during the Ricky Tims Quilt Luminarium,

I sorted through my boxes of Dumpster Diving leftovers

to prep the colors for the final sixteen JAZZY blocks.

sorted onto a styrofoam plate)

The scrappy neutrals paired with each of the colors 

came from my low volume stash.

I won't be following the RSC colors faithfully on this one

as the year goes along, but I'll keep making two blocks each month.

March's green sets.

And here they are sewn together.

I also sorted the big box of 

previously-leader-ender'ed HSTs

for the project known as GERFUL.

I sewed the first two (Of 20) blocks together

simply because I wanted to see how they looked.

I like this a lot.

There's no specific time frame for this one,

just whenever I need a change of pace.

All of SMITTEN's strips and squares 

were sewn together into pairs and pressed.

Those pairs were then paired/sewn 

into oversize four patches and pressed.

I trimmed 16 or so and then set the box aside

to trim a little along -  I'll need to do 

another mass stitch-out later since 

this represents roughly half of what I'll need.

And last but not least, I sewed Round 3 

on my NUBILOUS (Log Cabin Loonies) blocks.

Round 4 will happen in April.

I've decided  to add a fifth round in May 

to make these into 12" finished blocks

so I don't have to worry with a wide border.
