All For Only $23.00

Younger son and I spent a glorious 90 minutes at the annual book sale sponsored by the Friends of our local library (not the one we usually visit across town).

In this stack, the top three are for Young Man's bookshelf here at our house.

(not shown - two hardback copies of Wings of Fire (dragons) books 7 and 9 that will go to his house)

I found a set of three tall narrow cookbooks to alter, a stack of Little Golden books to turn into journals, and two copies of another blank spiral bound book to be filled when I find the right topic.

This stack of books are not in English.  Two are in German, one is in French, and one in Hebrew.

Since I love using old book pages in my collage having a variety of languages creates more visual interest.

This particular book will become my In the Mailbox journal.

(and the book's block pages will be great fun to use in future projects)

I chose it because I want to make the signatures using envelopes (this size and number tens along with business reply envelopes).  Security envelopes have such an interesting mix of colors and a wide variety of interior patterns which will give the project a marvelous backdrop.

The dryer is still not working despite the two new replacement parts DH installed.  Upon further study, the thermal fuse is the next likely culprit and that part is due here tomorrow.

Until then I've borrowed this rack from the studio (shown here with strips for Dumpster Diving 1 - Willy Nilly) so we can drape flat items to dry.  Fingers crossed this next part solves the no-heat problem.

Hoping to have a quilt finish to share on Monday.

p.s.  I've just finished reading the Kindle Unlimited version of Found in a Bookshop by Stephanie Butland.  Now I'll go back through and copy out a goodly number of passages I want to keep.  If you are a lover of books and you haven't read it, you should.

Thoughtful Thursday

Dbl-clck for more detail

Yes, that really is a buffalo.

He is part of the herd that lives at Shelby Farms (not far from my office).

All the others were grazing, standing around,
hanging out in the mud pit (aka watering hole),
or chasing each other across the field.

All I could think of was this book from long ago - Ferdinand the Bull.

I drove back to work smiling.

I have a big quilty-finish coming very soon
and I can't wait to share . . .

Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Easter weekend!

Weekend Adventures

Saturday morning I spent some time at the
Delta Patchwork one-day warehouse sale.

WOO HOO ~ what fun!

The lights in the stack above are for Lynne's orphan letter quilt.

The rest?

Stash enhancement!

And this new book came home with me, too.

Sunday night update:  IT'S SNOWING!

Planning Ahead

During November, I have a week of jury duty.
What to take to help pass the hours while waiting to be called?

Hand work was the obvious first choice -
but my thumb joints quickly reminded me
hand work wasn't such a good plan.

Books were the next obvious choice.
So I spent some time browsing
to see what I'd like to read.

Adding up even the discounted prices,
I quickly realized that 'now'  just might be
the time to seriously look at e-readers.

But which one?

I consulted several online review sources,
visited the Amazon Kindle and B&N Nook websites,
talked with DDIL who has an e-reader
and who has co-workers with various brands of e-readers,
and spent some time with the Nook-lady at our local B&N store.

I'm already 1/3rd of the way through my first downloaded book -
A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff -
and I can tell that I'm going to like reading this way.

But then another dilemma presented itself:
The Nook really needs  to be protected as I carry it about.
So ~ which kind of case to purchase?

I figured there had to be better prices online than in the store
(and more options)
and that proved to be true.
Just look at all these covers!!!
(not to mention the prices)

Stopping to think for a minute ~
why should I pay for a case designed by someone else
when I am a quilter?

Front ~ closed

Back ~ unfolded/open

Ta-da ~ this is my quilted batik Nook case,
straight from my scrappy stash!

Inside

Still need to get a couple of Velcro dots to secure the flap,
but otherwise, I'm very happy!.

[deeply contented sigh]
