Lagoon - Kitchen Table Quilt for June

Lagoon is our kitchen table quilt for June.

(for those who have wondered, I take these

glamour shot photos outdoors but we actually

use the quilts indoors on our kitchen table)

This is the backing for Lagoon.

Quilted with all over liberated fans with spiral centers

 using Glide thread in Aquamarine.

Lagoon - a Kitchen Table Quilt Top

I pulled these fabrics from the stash in August 2019

when I was planning out my series of kitchen table quilts.

In April 2020 I shared this look at the 6" squares on the design wall.

I wasn't happy with it so the squares went back into the box.

In May, I pulled them back out and cut them into HSTs,

mixing and matching the fabrics as I pinned them into pairs.

And then they sat . . . and sat.

In January 2021 I came up with a revised layout

after abandoning the intermediate (late summer 2020) plan.

As I sewed the strips together for Dumpster Diving 10 - Do Tell

I stitched the HSTs together leader-ender style.

This week I laid those completed HSTs out on the design wall,

did just a tiny bit of rearranging, and then clipped the blocks

before I could derail myself yet again.

It didn't take long to web the center section's blocks

and add the already-cut border pieces.

The top currently measures 64" x 64"

I love the look of Lagoon now.

Controlled yet eclectic scrappy really is my favorite way to work.

You can see the backing fabric laying on my sewing table along with

a set of binding strips that may or may not be used when the time comes.

Lagoon will be used on our kitchen table during the month of June

so I'll quilt it in May - unless an opportunity presents itself sooner.

It's Happening - Dumpster Diving 10 aka Do Tell

Little by little over the last few weeks,

I've been slowly stitching slabs

for Dumpster Diving 10 - Do Tell.

(last post for this project is HERE)

At this point there are five sets of four quarter-blocks

pinned on the design wall along with these three slabs.

 (each one large enough to cut a 16" square)

Here are the stacks of pressed strips for the next two slabs

As I stitch each strip to the previous one,

I use this nifty little piece of laminated wood

to "finger press" the seam to one side.

(my thumbnails aren't tough enough for the job)

Here's a look at the tapered of the wood piece.

It works like a charm.

And as I stitch the 17 strips together for oeach slab,

I'm using the HST pairs for June's kitchen table quilt

(named Lagoon) as my leader enders.

One more slab stitched but not yet pressed along with

sixteen leader-ender HST pairs sewn together.

Lagoon will use 81 of these HST pairs -

I'll have all of them sewn by the time

I finish pieced all of the DD10 slabs.

Do Tell's top needs 20 blocks or 80 quarter-blocks.

Slowly but surely . . . one seam at a time.
