Davies Manor Quilt Show 2014

Chris and I met up this weekend

at the annual Davies Manor Quilt Show.

Here we are standing in front of Manchester to Memphis,

the quilt Lynne made for me earlier this year.

Create With Abandon was there . . . 

. . . and so was Bless Her Heart.

Love the juxtaposition of such a traditional design

between two much more modern styles.

There were two Railroad Tracks quilts,

both done in Civil War reproduction fabrics.

This one . . . 

. . . and this one.

(inspired by the same vintage quilt as my Leaf Peeping flimsy)

Memphis now has a Modern Quilt Guild.

This was part of their display.

(LOVED seeing Word Play Quilts!!)

They also had a sewing machine set up

 so people could try their hand at piecing an improv block.

Down the lane at the Manor House,

I fell in love with this vintage beauty.

Then this one caught my eye from across the room.

Timeless in design and color --

Manchester to Memphis - The Quilt

MHT2MEM 

(aka From Manchester to Memphis) 

is finished!

Late afternoon October sunshine . . .

Simply gorgeous!

Deep sigh of gratitude . . .

The finished quilt measures approximately 66" x 83".

MHT2MEM - The Flimsy

This is what Lynne and I were working on when we sewed at her house.

We finished sizing and trimming her Missing U blocks.

Millie, of course, took her Quality Assurance duties quite seriously!

It wasn't long before we had a flimsy . . .

I love this photo of Lynne studying her just-finished work!

But - we need a name panel!

Lynne made a bird . . .

and I made a bird . . .

Lynne made our names,

and then we ran out of time.

The flimsy flew home with me in my carryon bag.

Lynne pieced the 2-0-1-4 numerals,

(shown below)

assembled the name panel,

and shipped the insert to me in Tennessee.

I pieced the quilt's back . . .

Approx. 66" x 83"

. . . and trimmed / squared the flimsy.

I still can't believe that Lynne has GIVEN me this quilt!

I love it !!

(AND all the stories it contains)

We've named it MHT2MEM.

Get it?

Explanation (added later) --

MHT = Manchester, NH airport code letters

(the airport for my flights when I visited Lynne)

MEM = Memphis, TN airport code letters

(my "home" airport)

The quilt top flew from MHT to (2) MEM 

when it left Lynne's house to live at my house.

Hence the name MHT2MEM.
