Hidden Potential is finished!

There is so, so much I could say about this collaborative project ~

and yet, there are not enough words to adequately describe the process or the journey.

Three women, three artists, three friends.

In the end, Lynne decided that she DID want to see "finish" photos

before her quilt makes its way from Tennessee to the snowy north.

As you can see, Chris did a wonderful job of quilting!

(The Waterworld panto she used is one of my favorites . . .)

Chris took some incredible freshly-quilted photos 

before delivering HP to me for binding, 

and she will likely share those on her blog soon.

I have been happy with this quilt for a long time ~

but I fell completely head over heels in love with it during the photo shoot.

I adore the way the sunlight and shadows play with the colors  ~

how alive and fluid the quilt becomes . . .

Lynne's orphans and misfits will be on their way back to her ~

Hidden Potential - An Update

Flimsy - 60" x 80"

A funny thing happened over the weekend . . . 

Better start back at the beginning.

A while back, I offered to make a quilt 

using Lynne's orphans (letters and more).

This photo shows the contents of the first squishie

randomly scattered on my design wall.

A second squishie followed with three houses 

and a leftover block (above).

Lots of designing, cutting, fiddling, and stitching later,

the flimsy for the front of Hidden Potential was finished.

Now for that funny thing that happened along the way . . .

(drum roll, please)

What was begun as a back has become Hidden Potential II.

Lynne will be getting two quilts instead of one!

The photo above was taken before I added 

the extra fabric all around that Chris needs for longarm quilting.

(The finished flimsy for HP II measures 72" x 90")

Lynne okayed sharing these photos ~

but I won't share any others until

both quilts are finished and have arrived in NH.

(Chris and I are planning to meet next weekend for a quilt swap)

I am beyond happy with the way these two flimsies turned out!!!

Waaaaaaaay beyond!!!

Now, I need to shift gears get busy and finish the rest of the socks

for Mary Lou's Sock Swap II ~

they need to be in CA by March 1st (eek!).

But first I need a couple days to savor HP I and HP II . . . 

[Note added later.  HP II has been renamed  . . .  Magic Happens]

Rules? What Rules?

This is what I found when I opened the envelope from Lynne.

But wait ~ there is no "i" in RULES . . .

. . . and there is no "H" either!

I thought Lynne was sending me her black and white RULES letters . . . 

but instead, I found these two blocks.

Now ~ for the rest of the story:

After Lynne sent me the first squishie 

with a lot of her orphaned letters, asterisks, hearts, and trees,

she sent a second squishie with three houses and a few more orphans.

So . . . 

This will be the House of Julie.

This will be the House of Chris.

This will be the House of Lynne

(once the final envelope from NH arrives).

I told Chris about all this when we met for our quilt swap .

She loves it and we've already started pondering quilting options.

Lynne's quilt is going to have SO many stories to tell!

Work Continues

Can you guess the word these letters will spell?

(the final "E" began life as two "C"s).

A quilt for Lynne just has to include this word . . . 

This 4-way U takes care of the last orphaned orphans.

Still need to re-do the PC word from yesterday's post

and then I can start the layout dance!

Hidden Potential

This is the first assembled (untrimmed)

word block for Lynne's quilt.

[Hidden Potential is the quilt's working name . . .]

These two letters were already attached to each other

so I added fabrics to frame the word.

These letters were also pieced together.

Now they are framed and ready to be used in the flimsy.

LOTS more designing and stitching to do . . .

(my goal is to work only with the orphans provided ~

no making new letters to fill in)

I can't show you the general layout just yet,

but here are some of the other words I've assembled:

I'll share more in a few days!

(At this point, there are only 5-6 orphaned letters

that haven't yet found their words.) 

There's another squishie

with more of Lynne's orphans

 on its way from snowy NH to snowy TN.
