When it was time to create my SSOBB Gallery Quilt,
I decided to build a barn based upon a real one
that is less than a mile from our house.

Soon I had a lower story with three doors,
one of them a large slider.
The upper story had a large haymow door
with a compass painted on it
and a small side window
for ventilation.
Next came the roofline strips -
shown here while they were being designed.
I wanted to use my leftover
flying pig fabric in the barn's sky,
so I added the pig pen's fencing
and fussy cut the first two piglets in flight.
In the end,
I managed to fill the sky
with flying pigs!
(I also simplified the barnyard,
using only one form of ground cover)
Chris's quilting
added so much texture to the quilt.
She even added a quilted fan in the barn's peak.
This was a quick photo I took
of the quilt pinned on the design wall
just after I finished the binding.
The finished quilt measures
29 inches wide
and 21 inches tall.

Fast forward to the present --
In only a few short weeks,
all of the SSOBB Gallery quilts
will be on display at a Special Exhibit
at AQS Chattanooga (Sept. 14-17)
and AQS Des Moines (Oct. 5-8).
They will also be on display
from Nov. 4-6 at the annual
in Memphis, TN.
I can hardly wait
to see them all together again!
