Pretty in Pink - the Quilt

Pretty in Pink is finished -- 53" wide x 64" long.

You can read the quilt's backstory by using the Pretty in Pink label at the end of this post.

Designed to use leftover pieces and parts, I am delighted with the end result.  

Tula Pink flamingo yardage made a fabulous backing.

Indoor photo where the lighting isn't quite so gray and cloudy. 

I'm looking forward to adding Pretty in Pink to our seasonal rotation of quilts.

Moving Forward Once Again

Do you remember my Pretty in Pink project?  

These blocks have been clipped and waiting since August.

Now (at last) they are sewn together into a quilt top complete with borders.  

I have pieced the backing and both top/back are rolled onto pool noodles ready to be pin basted.  

I want to use this quilt with our February seasonal decor, so you can expect this one to move forward soon.

On another front, I've chosen a different backing fabric for Macnas.

 (Macnas - an Irish word for playfulness) 

The minute I saw the updated Oriental Trees in green (from Kaffe's 85 and Fabulous Collection) I knew it was "the one."  

I've cleared the design wall and completed rows five and six . . . 

My goal is to have Macnas finished and ready to use with our March decor. 

As soon as Macnas is done I have a big brother quilt to make for a baby due in early April.

As a side note - I have responded to several comments from the last two posts only to have my emails "bounce back" after the commenter's server rejected them as "spam."  Some of these are bloggers I've emailed with for years which is even more frustrating. 

Especially if you use Gmail, please add my email address as a "safe sender" in your online Gmail system.  Adding it on your desktop, phone, and/or tablet is no longer sufficient - it now needs to be done at the online level.

Pretty in Pink - Layout Complete

I mentioned in the previous post that I would be using the Tula Pink flamingoes (far left) for backing.  

The KF Moss Flowers will be used for a narrow all-around border and binding.

Two big decisions made.

By late Saturday, all of the blocks were pieced, pressed, and laid out on the design wall.

I fussed around with the positioning of a few blocks only to be sure no two fabrics were adjacent to each other.

(You can see three scrap slab columns/rows for Luciferous hanging to the left)

In order to have full use of the design wall, I went ahead and clipped the blocks for Pretty in Pink so they can be webbed into a top one day soon.

(Both Concatenation and Pretty in Pink are at the "time to web" stage)

I am so going to love using this quilt once it is finished.

And if Pretty in Pink looks familiar to you . . .  Lynne made her Pink Panther quilt a few years ago.  I had forgotten all about it until I had the first few blocks for Pretty in Pink sewn together and on the design wall.  Lynne and I enjoyed a good chuckle over yet another example of "great minds" and all that.  

The pinks in my quilt came from my stash.  The side triangles are a mixture of scraps from Lynne's stash and some from my own.  I don't know if we have any overlap in side triangle fabrics, but neither one of us is worried if we do.

Introducing Pretty in Pink

I had a big pile of leftover side triangles after making the blocks for Kefi.

I also had a big pile of pink side triangles that were meant for Luciferous but were voted off the island.

I really didn't want to store them for "someday" so I turned them into half-rectangle-triangle blocks (HRTs for short).

But then what?

I had 96 facing in one direction and 89 facing in the opposite.  You can see above what I decided.

(just ignore the scribbled out areas - those ideas didn't fly)

I sorted the HRTs into sets of four to make forty blocks to be laid out eight wide x five long.

(each HRT finishes at 3" x 6" so each block finishes at 6" x 12")

And yes, I was planning to work on Luciferous (plates in the background) but I clearly got distracted.

Here are the first eight blocks on the design wall with one of the yellow columns for Luciferous on the right.

And I even have the perfect yardage to back this quilt that will be named Pretty in Pink (hmmm - obviously the name of the fabric somehow became the name of the quilt).

I will get these blocks sewn together, laid out, and clipped for webbing after I get back to work on Luciferous.
