A New Long-Term Project

Back in October I made the decision
to start making lined drawstring gift bags
using only fabrics in my stash and Jeni Baker's design.

(I have both her original pattern and the expansion pack)

This was my very first lined drawstring bag
made using her "basic" pattern.

I absolutely love the way it works, feels, and looks.

I was surprised by my excitement over
how much easier gift wrapping will be
once I get a whole group of these made.

(within our immediate family, the bags will not be part of the gift -
but for gifts given to others, the bags will go with the gifts)

This was my second bag - without the boxed bottom.

It will be perfect for thinner, flatter items.

This project has enormous possibilities --
so much so that I'm planning to use this bag project
for my 2021 Rainbow Scrap Challenge effort.

Interestingly and coincidentally,
Jeni Baker has just started a casual sew along
for her lined drawstring bags.

Now . . . shifting gears a bit . . .

Last week I shared photos of Max's new look.

Today I'll share some recent additions to my Bernina 440.

I especially LOVE this overthinking sticker.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”

“That depends a good deal on
where you want to get to” said the Cat.

“I don’t much care where” said Alice.

“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go” said the Cat.

"So long as I get somewhere” Alice added as an explanation.

“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat
“if you only walk long enough.”

Lewis Carroll

I couldn't resist the Fisher Price inspired dog
with his quilt block shirt.

He is a perfect companion for . . .

. . . my Fisher Price seamstress with her sewing machine.

It's all part of the ongoing effort
to be sure the studio remains my "happy place."

"Levity is the lubricant of a crisis.
We resort to jokes, pranks and good natured kidding
to relieve tension, stress and boredom."

Great post Julie. I love that bag pattern too. I have a number of fabric holiday gift bags that I use under the tree each year too. Creates a bit less mess and paper waste on Christmas.
That Fisher Price seamstress is the best! I don't remember her or what set she would be from but she is adorable.

The bags will be such a lovely bonus to those who will receive gifts from you. I noticed you have a light on your machine and am wondering what type it is and how you like it. My machine light has permanently gone out.

Could you tell me where you got your little stick-on light on your machine? Does it really help? I'm finding myself pulling a small OttLite over to help out while I'm sewing at night and yours looks a whole lot less intrusive.
Thanks!

good start to our creative work weeks
you know I love the FP sewing lady and machine. Is that a tiny beaded twinchie behind it?

A lovely post, Julie. A friend has made gift bags for years with Christmas fabric but they are not nearly as lovely as yours.
All your stickers and toys tickled my funny bone. Thanks. We all need a good laugh these days.

Neat idea having stickers on your Bernina, love the smiling cat and the sticker on overthinking would be a good idea for many of us! Nice bags Julie, I had seen that she was having a sew along and thought they were a super idea, especially for Christmas.
