Those Lined Drawstring Gift Bags

I reached the point when it was time to DO something

about these instead of ignoring the obvious . . . 

This photo shows the XXL size bag bodies.

(the designer calls these Laundry Bags -

there's a permanent link in my sidebar

for her pattern)

Squirrels and foxes, 

flowers, cameras and Kokipelli,

script, folk art, and more . . .

The bag on the right shows one half of one bag 

with the other half behind it on the design wall.

(top down - one side of the bag's main body,

 accent strip where the drawstring goes,

and one half of the bag's lining)

The others are all folded in half twice 

so their linings don't show in this photo.

And please excuse the wrinkles

and fold lines - each bag will be pressed

right before I continue with the next steps.

(fyi - these bags are the same size 

as the blue one in the previous post

that was used for the gift quilt)

This group is what I call the XL size.

(Jeni calls these Artist bags)

The lining is at the top with the exterior accent

just below and the exterior main fabric at the bottom.

These also have their second half 

(seamed together at the bottom) folded behind.

Squirrels and folk art, bold color shoes,

stripes, plaids, and paisleys . . .

These are the L size -

what Jeni calls the Project bag.

Can you tell they're decreasing in size?

Kangaroos, more squirrels, folk art, 

night sky, llamas, and several sections 

of excess quilt backing . . . 

These are the M ("Everything") size bag bodies.

World map, oriental cultural icons, bicycles,

hippos, and the remains of a LOVE panel . . . 

This photo shows those same Medium bags on the top row

with the S ("Snack") bags below.

Kangaroos, sheep, strawberries, and more llamas . . . 

And finally these two groups are

XS (top row - "DVD") with XXS (bottom row - "CD").

These two sizes will not have boxed corners

like the larger sizes.

Lemurs, jungle animals, and tropical flowers . . .

My plan of action was to have each group cut out

(including strips for their drawstrings)

with each bag's body sewn together

(there are six pieces for each bag)

The closet shelf is no longer filled with 

stacks of fabrics waiting to be cut to size

and there's no more worrying about the

individual bag parts getting mixed up.

Somehow this seems less daunting

than those aging stacks of waiting fabrics.

Next step will be to fold up and put away

the piles of leftover yardage/scraps.

But more about that on Monday.
