Rufus (on the corner of my ironing table) and Star continue to explore our house and appear to have chosen my quilt studio upstairs as their preferred hangout.
This is the first place we look for Star . . . once I get the seat lint-rollered and de-haired, I'll re-train myself to cover the seat with a small towel whenever I leave the room (and we've found that she has already learned to walk "just so" when she crosses the top of my Bose radio to reach the windowsill ~ I may have to learn to unplug it so she can't turn it on so easily).
And this is where we found Rufus Friday night ... curled in one of my project boxes atop a strippy work-in-progress. (his eyes were glowing from the flash, so please pardon the clumsy edits to the photo)
Rufus actually sat still long enough Saturday afternoon for me to snap a couple of photos. I haven't been able to do this with Star (yet).Angel (our "resident" kitty) hasn't altered many of her routines now that all three cats have full run of the house. There have been several stare-downs, a bit of hissing, a few growls, but mostly they just avoid each other.
We took time Saturday afternoon to visit House of Mews (in MIL's obit, we had mentioned this feline rescue organization as an alternative to flowers). There are currently 140 kitties there waiting to be adopted including a few kittens, several 18-20 year olds, lots of calicos and tortise-shells, plus black cats, white cats, and gray tiger cats. We were glad that we didn't have to choose one over the other!
Maybe some stitching one day soon . . .

They are all such precious kitties and it sure looks like they've found a good home ;) I can just imagine how happy and relieved your MIL would truly be to know that you were taking such superb and loving care of them. And little Angel, is being one to even tolerate the sweet interlopers! The hissing doesn't last long. Sooner or later a truce is formed and pretty soon, there'll be an alpha kind of pecking order but peace will reign. And if not, you can always turn up the Bose speaker!!
It sounds like the kitties are adjusting to your house. If you lay their Gizzy quilts where you want them to go, do they go to them?
Rufus is one beautiful boy. Hope by now they are all settling down together.
It just takes some time for everyone to adjust. They'll work it out - sounds like they're already doing pretty well. They're beautiful cats, and I'm sure your MIL is happy knowing that her "babies" are being cared for.
