Donation quilt for Jack's Basket - 2018

According to Barbara Brackman's book 

Encyclopedia of Pieced Patterns 

the earliest example of a coins quilt dates from 1850.

There are a great many variations of the block, 

thus the many different names

i.e., roman square when every fourth block is dark, 

chinese coins where the blocks are often different sizes,

and bars when the blocks are all the same size 

and the vertical rows in between are the same size.

Coins quilts can be traditional, liberated,
color coordinated, scrappy,
oriented vertically or horizontally . . . 

No matter what you call them,
they're fun to make and wonderful to use.
