Abendrot - Decisions Made

Once all 35 WOF pairs were pressed, it was time to make a decision on Abendrot's design.

I have always loved the Candy Coated design from Amanda Jean Nyberg's book Sunday Morning Quilts.

So much so that I've made two scrappy quilts using that design - Metamorphosis and Groundhog Day.

Now Abendrot will be the third.

Step one was to calculate the sub-cut length - after some time with the calculator I decided to go with 8.5" (8" finished) segments.

Step two was to sort all those segments onto nine plates in order to evenly distribute the fabrics amongst the rows.

I have at least 2 extra segments on each plate so I'll be able to edit as I stitch each row.

Once the rows are created, I'll arrange them on the design wall.

I'm not in any particular hurry to get Abendrot done (which is a good thing) but I do want to get the first row sewn to satisfy my own curiosity.

Nice work getting all this ready to sew into strips...you have found a good way to distribute colors:))) Your plates work in so many ways for you;)))

Love these happy sunshine fabrics and am pleased to say I've just put "Sunday Morning Quilts" on hold at my library!!

'Abendrot' will be an antidote to gloomy days. :)

Hugs!

The color palette on this one is going to be a game changer for the quilt design look. It will pull together value and color wise in an interesting way. I went down the rabbit hole and looked at all the links. Thanks for including them.

Have fun with that, Julie! I put together a purple one in October. I altered the row heights to suit the scrappy strips being used and turned one small section to run horizontally, avoiding additional cutting.

"Satisfy curiosity" -- that happens to me all the time. I make a few units, then make the blocks, then put them on the design wall because I am impatient to see how they go together!

I've always liked this particular pattern from Sunday Morning Quilts, your yellow colour palette is beautiful.
