RSC Light Neutrals - Part 1

Since this month's RSC color is light neutrals,
I pulled out my stuffed-to-the-gills Cream crumb box
and the not-yet-full White crumb box.

Here is what the boxes look like from the back.
(without the labels)

I unfolded the strips and sorted everything
into like-size piles.

Then I started sewing pieces together.

After several hours,
these four sets were the only ones left to assemble.

I pinned the various segments and sewn-together strips
on the design wall to see just how much area they covered.

Hmmm - not quite enough for a quilt top.

Time to ponder a bit more.

You really have a good start. Love how those fabrics coordinate.

Is it against the rules of the challenge to use yardage from your stash? Or in other words, are you limited to what's in your scrap boxes?
I do love what you have so far.

Sounds like fun to just play and see what happens! My favorite kind of sewing!

Lovely segments. Almost looks like you could sew all the segments together, then cut 6" or 8" (??) squares and make a Sujata Shaw quilt cutting HST with a bright orange or sapphire blue. Just a suggestion. Looking forward to seeing what you do.

wow is right. I love this...I've done somethings a bit similar and am always reminded how pretty low contrast, how sophisticated it is.

These are looking wonderful together. Sometimes that 'tone-it-down' look is so very appealing!

Great accomplishment, must feel good to clean those out. How about a baby quilt or two?

Oh, this set of neutrals looks great as a quilt top. Thanks for sharing.

Today I went to Quilted Threads in Henniker, NH to look for inspiration. I said Hi to Lynne T. who was teaching a class, and saw your barn quilt hanging on the wall. I had seen pictures, of course, but I had no idea how bright the colors are. Spectacular!

Nice collection of neutrals!
Beautiful improv work, I enjoy visiting here, so much design candy.

Now this is nice!! I am woefully lacking in neutrals, but I quite often use the back side of my fabrics instead, in fact after seeing what you're doing here I think I might ply and see just what an improv quilt made totally with the reverse side of fabrics works out! Great inspiration from you Julie.

What a great job sewing them all together. Could you use them as 'fabric' to make other blocks maybe?

I'm just fascinated lately with string/strip blocks - both the big bright chaotic-color ones and the more subtle ones like you've made here. So interesting the way they seem to draw the eye and fracture the light.

So many ways to go with that great collection. It will be fun to see what it turns into.
