Doodles and a Hack

First - the doodles.  The rows of plus signs are not as easy as the videos online make it look.  I like the X's and O's better.

Not only have I kept up but I've continued on and am way ahead of the game.

My inspirations have come from a wide variety of sources, especially free motion quilting and quilt patterns.

You can see my notes here (and the photo will enlarge if clicked on).

I'm closing in on Day 100, way ahead of their schedule.

I'll keep going until I fill the sketchbook and then it will become a quick reference tool.

It has been a good-for-me exercise and I'm almost comfortable testing a few of these on some old book pages using a few of my medium tip paint markers/pens.

Now for the hack.

I've long thought that Ikea should sell an add-on for their Raskog carts to hold a roll of paper towels.

They don't but I saw a photo online and stole the idea.

Voila - a decent paper towel holder is now part of my system, although I may add a set of binder slips to add even a bit more stability in case I tug too hard while tearing off a sheet.

Here's a photo of the box.  I found mine at Amazon but I'm sure similar products are sold elsewhere.

No more paper towel roll falling on the floor.

There's been a lot of thinking, planning, and setting up on the quilting side.

I've chosen and cut the border strips for DD 12.

I've chosen names for at least 4 projects I want to make (the fabric pulls and design ideas happened a while ago).

I've sorted through the backings and updated the quilt name tags on them (I know, I know - but it helps keep my brain from exploding).

I've also cleaned up several of my finished project photo files, tidied the project boxes, disassembled a few and put the yardage back on the shelves, and made lots of notes to put in the project file folders (in case I forget the ideas I've chosen by the time I pull the project out again).

(the photo above shows the quilts that still live at our house and aren't in active use on the shelves in the corner of our master bedroom where they don't get any direct sunlight - as I change the seasonal decor during the year, I swap out the quilts as well so none of these stay folded for months on end)

Be back again on Monday . . .

Leah Day has inspired my chose of quilting patterns a time or too! She’s full of ideas. I like your exercise of creating the sketchbook of quilting patterns. I am fascinated with your collection of quilts! What glorious color! Have we seen all of them?! I don’t remember the one on the chair…love those fabrics together!

Well done in getting so wonderfully organized as well as freeing up your creativity with the notebook of delightful doodles!

Love the magnetic paper towel holder, too, and may put one of those in a couple of Easter baskets if Amazon can get them here in time.

Hope you have a comfy chair in each of your sewing spaces so you can sit and happily peruse your accomplishments! How satisfying.

Hugs!

Now I don't feel so bad about the number of quilts I have in my house after seeing yours.
I wish I had started putting my doodles all in one notebook. I have many, many pieces of paper with doodles on them here and there in many places.

Everything is so well organized and thought out in your studio. I spent the week cleaning stuff out of cabinets and shelves. Haven't put anything back yet, trying to determine the best use of space. The quilts are adorable all stacked ready to make an appearance. I love to doodle. I like to shade them also, just using a soft pencil. I like to work/sketch in black and white.

I'll go with the doodles first off - my favourite has to be the dowel rods sketch, fascinating! My mind did a flip when your photo of your 'quilt store' came into view, such a glorious sight! I like your idea of keeping notes on ideas in a projects folder, it's so easy to suddenly have a light bulb moment which fades away!

I admire your ability to keep journals on so many topics, including the doodles. And to have such nice display space for quilts-on-hand!

Have a nice Easter, Julie.

Your quilt stacks are most impressive. I’ve given so many away; some I miss very much. But what a glorious way to use your quilts decoratively even when they are resting.
I’ve tried to make journals but am never successful for long. Keep up the good work.

I'm loving your doodles, Julie. Glad you decided to keep them black and white for endless possibilities!! I don't recall seeing that particular quilt storage area before. I thought all the quilts were in one of the studio closets.
