This is the finished crib quilt
that was a last minute special request.
Solid blues for the outer border,
a mix of starry night-time blues for the center,
and especially for my little beach bum
his name in turquoise with colorful beach ball bubbles.
Quilted using Glide Rainbow Variegated thread (top)
and Persian Glide (back).
See previous post for more quilting notes.
Here's a detail shot of the name fabric.
And a detail shot of the border stitching
and striped binding fabric.
Mom and Dad and Little Man all love it.
36" wide x 45" long
Here is the larger of the two quilts
featuring a hungry animals ABC panel
by J. Wecker Frisch for Quilting Treasures.
I added the fun border and sassy striped binding.
Quilted with liberated free motion Baptist Fans
in Glide Warm Grey 4 thread.
Finished size approximately 45" x 55".
Two toucans on a turtle taking tea
beside a topiary and two trellises.
I cut 10.5" squares from "wordy" prints
to create the quilt's scrappy back.
Can you find the turtles, daisies, dots,
butterflies, fish, pigs (and/or flying pigs),
trucks, raindrops, birds,
birdcage, Dr. Suess characters,
bunnies, ducks, sheep, flowers,
and on and on?
A closer sampling of fabrics used in the back.
Bike, ball, pear, compass, pirate,
bunny, duck, flower, stars, fish,
(who can later become Dory and Nemo)
Curious George, ship, continent, and so on.
N is for nuts, neck (the ostrich's), and nest.
O is for Ostrich in overalls,
oranges in the orange chair, olives, owl,
open (window), and onions (growing in the ground).
S is for smiling sheep sitting on a stool
with soup sitting on a stack of suitcases,
socks and saddle shoes,
sunflowers, stove, sugar,
shutters, salt shaker,
snow (outside the window),
spoons (hanging on wall), and a sink.
Each and every letter block is just like this -
filled with things to seek and find.
Mom and Dad spent quite a while
poring over the quilt
looking for and finding things.
But the best part was Little Man's reaction
when he pulled the quilt out of the gift bag.
He knew EXACTLY what to do.

I'll be linking up on Tuesday
with Ann and Kaja and the Ad Hoc Improv Quilters
for the final 2017 AHIQ link party.
Looking ahead,
I'll have two posts in the coming days
about my goals and plans for 2018.
I may not achieve all of them
but I know sharing them here will help keep me on track.

Lovely quilts Julie and what a treasure of a picture to see your Little Man's reaction!!! You will have enjoyed a wonderful time with him this Christmas.
You have reminded me of the AHIQ link - if I get a post up mine will be purely about proposed projects for next year, but I have a little more thinking to do first!
I love all of the things related to each letter in that panel. Connor will always know what to do with a quilt! He senses the love in them.
I really like the dark border you used on the alphabet quilt. It really made it pop. I don't think I would have thought of that.
Perfection! Merry Christmas to you and your family. ❤️
Aw, thanks for sharing the photos of Little Man loving his quilt! I have two of those ABC panels and am stitching one up next week for my niece's oven bun. Just waiting to hear if they know the gender yet, since the mom has strong color preferences. The panel is so colorful that if you cut out the squares, new sashing can change the color scheme completely.
But the little blue quilt you made is my favorite! So dreamy and nap worthy :)
Julie, I’ve been wanting to hear how you are liking your “Max” sit down quilting machine. And wondering if you are sitting in front of it or on the side of the head like a regular domestic sewing machine. I’m in the market for a machine with a larger throat, but I haven’t seen a mid arm where you sit in same position as a regular sewing machine. Could you comment about your experience with your “Max” (otherwise known as the APQS “George”, thanks, Katie
Julie, I can't figure out your direct email address or how to change my comments from No-Reply (dumb I guess), so here's my email--kmsgzerofiveonetwoat gmail.com. Thanks very much for your time. I do love little man since I don't have a grandchild of my own so also thanks for sharing him!
So sweet! Perfect binding choice on the blue quilt and the ABC quilt.
Fun ideas for a 'little one' quilt.
Aww Little Man is too cute!!!
Such lovely quilts, Julie. I like them both. Great bindings and backings on both, too. I love the limited colors of Connor's quilt and am finding these small quilts need a limited color palette like this. Good job with the orange peel quilting.
And I love all the details you pointed out in the fabric panel. So very cute and will be well used by Little Man.
Thanks for linking these delightful quilts with AHIQ. Happy New Year.
So cute! Lovely quilting also.
I had two of these animal panels in two different colorways. They sat and sat on a shelf in the closet until a neighbor had twins. A boy and a girl. It's so much fun to sit and find all the things in each block.
The I-spy quilt is just adorable! So much interest for the little guy. Both quilts are great for their intended use. I really like that Baptist fan stitching too. Always a favorite of mine.:)
You can tell he is growing up around quilts! I'll look forward to seeing what your plans for 2018 are.
