I finally decided on backing fabric
for Sixteen By Sixteen.
(and it was on sale for 60% off!)
This week's goal is to get the top sewn together
and get the quilt sandwich pin basted
so Max and I can quilt it soon.
I also changed my mind completely
about the backing for my liberated wedding ring top.
When I swapped out backing fabric,
I realized I could use the cursive text
to back Stacked Squares -
much better than the bright yellow stripe
I had assigned to this top last year.

Shifting gears from
quilts waiting to be quilted
to
quilt designs waiting to be made . . .
I have always loved New York Beauty quilts.
I know.
They are a far cry from my favorite liberated style
but they call to me anyway.
I've seen ever so many Pickled Fish blocks on Instagram
and I finally purchased the pattern last month.
I won't start on it until sometime next year,
but I do want to make it using my colors and style.
I also want to make The Emperor's Wheel by Chris Jurd.
I'm planning to start this one next year
but mine will not be made with Orientals.
And then there is this fabric group known as
Do follow the link and read the backstory
behind these fabrics - it's worth the time.
My fat quarter bundle is in transit now
and I know just how I'll use it later this year.
Until then, I'll enjoy the pretty bundle!
I know.
You never see me buy fabric bundles.
There's just something about this group
that speaks to me with its variety of
prints, scales, colors, textures, and designs.
(After all, I AM an eclectic quilt maker)
And do you remember my word for 2017?
S M I L E
Mr. Marvelous clearly gets it!

I see Mr. Marvelous has some teeth too. What a great smile to be recorded in a photo.
What a fabulous smile!!! How wonderful. 😊
Can't help but have a good day after seeing Mr. Marvelous' tremendous smile!! I'm interested in the change of backing for the liberated wedding rings quilt. I do love the cursive text for the stacked squares though. You are looking forward to a challenging year with those two patterns :) Looking forward to following your progress :)
Oh my! Love your decisions. And, thanks for sharing the Gertrude Made link. The stories are wonderful.
Oh, you've picked some challenging, but gorgeous, quilts to make next year. I love NYB quilts too. I've had my eye on that Emperor's Wheel pattern for awhile but haven't bought it yet. I've made a couple of pickle dish quilts but Pickled Fish looks like a fun variation.
Thanks for the link to Outback Wives. First, I LOVE barkcloth. I have a couple of pieces of old curtains from the 50s that used to be my in-laws but haven't figured out how I want to use it yet. Second, I loved the stories about the wives. Both my maternal and paternal ancestors were all farmers who homesteaded after emigrating. As the family genealogist I have stories about how difficult it was to farm, survive the Depression era, etc. And those stories and people are why I always wanted to live out in a rural area on an acreage (but not make my living off the land or raising animals).
Love the quilt. I have been wanting to make Pickle Dish, from Red Pepper Quilts for ages. I have so many things I want to make I feel paralyzed!!
So much good stuff in this post! Mr. Marvelous is definitely worth smiling at! I just love that fabric you bought, I've been eyeballing it myself and telling myself to knock it off already! hehe A New York Beauty quilt has been on my list forever too, but wowsers! So much work!
LOVE the photo!! he is just too cute!
You've got some exciting project in the future and some creative quilting ahead.
Showing off his teeth, I see!!
I do like your choice of backing fabric Julie - and you were able to buy this with a good reduction! Three days ago I ordered three patterns from Chris Jurd, one of which was The Emperor's Wheel, Linda over at kokaquilts has just finished making this quilt, it's beautiful. I'm looking forward to your project using The Outback Wife fabric. A super smile from Mr Marvelous!
