Sixteen by Sixteen

The sixteen patches were started last year
as a two-year project for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

For the last three months,
I already had blocks made in the color-of-the-month
so nothing new happened.

This month's theme is MULTI-COLOR
and I decided to just go ahead
and make the rest of the 48 blocks
so I could play with layout ideas.

I made three blocks in each of these sixteen colors:

Red, Green, Brown, Light Blue
Christmas, Blue-Green, Pink, Turquoise,
Blue, Gold, Orange, Yellow,
Gray, Black with Brights, Red Purple, and Dusky Purple

The first layout (shown at the top of the post)
just didn't do anything for me
so I tried again with random diagonals.

Still not what I was hoping for.

This was the next attempt.

As Lynne's mom would say, "Meh."

After more block repositioning, this is where things stand.

Now I'm ready to start sewing it together.

What an unexpected surprise to see these colors with subtle black-and-white prints. It will be a glorious quilt.

Your final arrangement just sings! No "Meh" there ;-)

I love that arrangement! I made a rainbow 16 patch from last year's blocks, and the layout was very challenging. Yours works!

heck with my Mom. I said "Meh" too! How big are those 16 patch blocks?

I like the last version.

Looks like you had fun playing with the blocks before deciding on a final setting. This will be a lovely quilt.

I agree that the last layout is the best choice. I love the wash of color down the quilt in that version!

Love all the colors against the text fabrics - this is going to be one of those "want to wrap up in it" quilt!

I just love a simple 16 patch quilt. I didn't know how much until I made one. Now that I see yours I feel like I want to make another. I like the b/w text fabrics with all the color.
