Elsewhere in the Studio

I finally came up with a good way
to store my Baptist Fan stencils.

Two vintage wooden hangers
plus four curtain rings/clips
and the stencils now hang safely
in the to-be-quilted closet.

They are in good company . . .

Scrappy Bow Ties
Liberated Wedding Ring
Stacked Squares
Cherie's Broken Dishes
Scrap Happens
Quilts Madder No. 2
Plaid-mania!
Rise and Roost
Colorful Crumbs
AND
Green Geese

One quilt that will be coming out of that closet
in the very near future is Scrap Happens.

I printed out a photo of the quilt top
and covered it with my vinyl overlay
so I could test out some potential quilting designs.

(I use dry erase markers which easily rub off the vinyl)

After a lot of doodling,
I decided to use my single Baptist Fan stencil
(link to Barb's Etsy shop in my sidebar)
and pink Glide thread.

After all, this quilt was created during the
Gwen-Inspired Medallion Quilt-along last year
and Gwen has quilted LOTS of her quilts
with Baptist Fans (although she hand quilted hers).

Have you seen the latest news from the Quilt-along?

(Scrap Happens IS going to be part of this)

I also spent some time doodling design ideas
for Something Fishy.

(this was my Quilt-along Round 5 project)

The design I settled on is from this book.

Choosing the designs is the hardest part for me.

Now to do some actual quilting.

My closet looks the same. I need to chain myself to the long arm and get more done. Choosing quilt designs is tough because I try to fit the design to the quilt and fabric and no two are the same. Great progress!

A whole closet just for "to be quilteds"! Sigh. I'm envious! :)

Great ideas about hanging up those stencils and the use of a plastic overlay over a photo of the quilt for coming up with a quilting design. Thanks.

My closet looks exactly like yours! I'm please your quilt is going to be in the exhibition, it's a delight and I love the colours.

I enjoy visiting here for beautiful colors, ideas and quilts of course!
I read your 'Why Blog' how encouraging! I was running low on courage.
Thanks for sharing.

What a good way to store your templates and tops. I'll have to try it. Baptist Fans are one of my favorites, too, but I can't see stencil markings very well. Last time I tried freehand fans... Let's just say they looked like they'd been sat on. Several times.

Choosing quilting designs is hard for me too. Sometimes I think that I am going to ruin the quilt by doing something stupid.....but it always seems to work out OK in the end! Thank goodness! You would think one would eventually get over that, huh?

And I meant to ask....do you like that step by step quilting book? I am looking for a couple good ones since my ones all got flooded out!
