Studio Notes

I have spent quite a few hours
over the past two weeks tidying, cleaning,
and updating my design studio.

All of the show pins from the last two years
are now on my baobab tree quilt.
(my DIL brought the quilt home from
her African safari many years ago)

The random mash-up of items on the design wall
has been culled and edited.

And for right now,
the cutting table is clear !!

All of my show and award ribbons
have been gathered in one spot
and are displayed using ribbon,
painted clothespins, and an old wooden hanger.

The jumble on my vintage spool rack
has also been sorted and simplified
which means the closet door on the right
now opens all the way for easier access.

My small stash of solids and peppered cottons have a proper home now.

Work surfaces have been cleaned off,
scraps have been sorted and tucked into their boxes,
and months of dust is gone.

I cannot tell you how long it has been
since I could see the full length of this counter top!

Perhaps the happiest Eureka of all was
discovering that this long-abandoned wire shelf unit
fit into the space between two sets of drawers.

The lower shelf is perfect for interfacings, etc.

And, with a bit of dollar store foam core board,
I re-folded my backing fabrics,
pinning a note to each showing total yardage.

I love that they are stored where I can SEE them.

(another benefit is that I will now be
far less tempted to buy more backing
until most of these have been used)

There are a few more things I want to do
but it feels so much better when I
walk into this room now!

In the sewing studio,
I'm still rearranging the barnyard blocks
in my Old Macdonald Sampler.

I've also been playing with some of the orphans.

I want to include this panel in the quilt's back.

And
for those who celebrate the holiday,
Happy Thanksgiving weekend.

Oh, you need to start at least a dozen new projects right away! All that open space must be filled! 8)

Wow, what a great job you did cleaning up! It seems like I can never get it all cleaned up before it all breaks out again. Looks like a great place to spend time and energy.

what heaven in a studio! Clean and tidy and for now you know where things are. (I can't imagine or at least I can IMAGine) I would be totally happy to see the rack fit perfectly between the file cabinets.
