Old MacDonald Mystery Sampler - The Blocks

CLICK HERE to read the previous post
to catch up on how I got to this point.

This is what the design wall looked like
by the time I finished my flock of chickens.

Key things to notice:

I removed the far left-hand column
making my new layout narrower at
8 blocks wide x 11 blocks long
or approx. 48" x 66"

I redesigned the mountain range.

I removed the dark sunflower center
and replaced it with a sunny yellow-orange.

I rearranged a lot of the blocks in the sky
as well as the chickens and some of the flower blocks.

(photos will supersize for greater detail)

After a lot of stitching today
(and quite a bit of unstitching / restitching)
these are all 88 blocks in what I believe
will be the final layout.

The sun migrated to the upper right hand corner
and I rearranged the mountain blocks again
from where they were in the first two photos.

I've lost count of how many times
I've rearranged the blocks in the sky.

I like the way things flow now.

I don't have a name for this one yet,
but after fussy cutting squares
for the haymow opening,
"Rise and Roost" comes to mind.

A big thank you goes to Sophie
in conjunction with Block Lotto
and The Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Even though I didn't follow
the sampler's original layout
all the way to the very end,
I'm happy with my results.

How fun! I think this is the first layout I have seen of Sophie' s QAL. Great job making it your own. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

That is a lot of fun to look at! I remember the sunflowers you made earlier, but that block really is perfect for the sun. What will you do with your leftover blocks that didn't make it into the quilt?

Your revised version is great. It is simplified, not at all scattered. The sun is perfect and I love the chickens and flowers. Congrats on a fine finish.
