My Coins Quilts - AHIQ link up

The current AHIQ quarterly challenge involves
Chinese / Roman / Stacked coin quilts.

organized by Ann and Kaja)

* * *
The first thing I did was to go back through my photos
to see just how many coins quilts I've made
since I started making quilts in 2004 . . .

Collage 1

Upper Left - Blueberry Nonsense (2012)

Middle Left - Afternoon at the Park (gifted 2008)

Lower Left - Joan's Kitty Coins (gifted 2007)

Upper Right - Colorful Coins/Crumbs
(flimsy awaiting quilting)

Lower Middle
Mini made with leftovers from Colorful Coins/Crumbs
(also a flimsy awaiting quilting)

Lower Right:  Buttercream (2015)

Photo will supersize if double-clicked

bearing the names of Alzheimer's victims/patients.
This quilt was gifted by AAQI to Zach of WigFlip
as a thank you for his computer work on behalf of AAQI)

(A second purple patch quilt created for Ami Simms,
Founder of AAQI, to be used in her presentations)

This is the finished back of my current coins project.

(On this kind of scrappy project,
I press the seams in the segments open
since I don't know where things will fall later)

And a peek at the freshly pressed quilt top
ready to be sandwiched and basted . . .

(all fabrics in this top were rescued from a
multi-year stashing of strings and clean cuts
left behind after previous projects)

Great feast for the eyes today! I like the last one the best. I freaked out when I saw you pressed all the seams open! I really love this last quilt and can't wait to see it all done and quilted and bound.

Wow, you have made a lot of them. I didn't realize you only started making quilts in 2004. You are such a record keeper that I bet you know how many quilts you have made.

You have made a lot of wonderful Chinese Coin style quilts! Sounds like you will have yours done by the next AHIQ monthly post. I like the scrappy look of yours.

Holy crow, Julie, this block has really been good to you! I really love that first blueberry quilt. No wonder you kept going. :D

And the new one is beautiful. Just my favourite colours. Very inspiring, thank you!

Such a wonderful collection of coins quilts. I like the bold prints you've included in the last one, but all are unique.

Wow. I've only made a few (some weren't ever photographed) but certainly not this many. So many beautiful colors. I'm drawn to Quiet Time, probably because I'm working on a quiet colored quilt myself. Love the vertical strips you added.
And your new one is the perfect mix of bright pastels. So cheerful. How lovely to make it all from true scraps.
Thanks for accepting the invitation so wholeheartedly, sharing your expertise with us, and linking with AHIQ. Truly a blessing to see your work.

What a wonderful collection! I'm glad you took the time to photograph them all. I like the variation of the widths in the last one--and the riot of color. Good idea about pressing the seams open. These quilts are so full of seams that they must get quite hefty when pieces are small, and I'm sure pressing open must help with the quilting.

So many coin quilts! And a couple of my favourites in there. I love the soft/sweet colours of the latest iteration; they seem nicely spring-like and happy.

What a fantastic array of coins Julie. So productive over the years. I absolutely love the colours in your latest one - like ice-cream! The way you've used large prints in narrow strips is makes it really exciting to look at. Look forward to seeing this one quilted :) x

Your current coins project is completely inspirational!

Oh my! I don't even think I can pick a favorite. I've only made a couple of Halloween ones for the granddaughters when they were younger.

Wow, you have been a busy quilter! I remember some of your coin quilts, but the sum total is really quite impressive! I love them all, but my fave is the rainbow scraps/slabs. And your latest looks like Spring! A feast for the eyes at this time of year.

That Haiku is so sweet :) You make wonderful coin quilts! One day I know I'm going to have a blast with all the scraps I'm keeping as I work on my gazillion UFOs, and it's super inspirational to see what you've shared.
